1.4 hectares cleared in Gomoa Central
No pictures yet. New places get them within a week or two, the largest first.
This patch is no longer in the last 12 months of clearing. The page stays so links to it keep working.
Licence on this land
Prospecting licence only
The register shows only a prospecting licence here, which does not allow mining.
The labels come from the Minerals Commission's public licence register. This label is from the last week this patch was in our count. Mining without a licence is illegal in Ghana, and that is what galamsey is. Read what each label means
Likely galamsey is our own guess, not part of the register. We add it where the register shows no licence to mine and the satellite sees water in or next to the cleared patch, because mining pits fill with water. A place without this label can still be galamsey. How the guess works

Google's pictures are sharper than ours but can be years older, so they may show forest where the land has since been cleared. Google Earth shows the date of its picture.
What this page does and does not say
Satellites saw most of the plant cover here disappear, starting on 15 March 2026. The pictures show the place before and after. Mining leaves pits, bare orange ground and muddy ponds, which you can often see in them.
We do not know who cleared this land or why. Look at the pictures and the licence, and judge for yourself.
